A home on Newell Street in Rhinelander was deemed a total loss following a fire that started Wednesday afternoon.
According to a news release from Rhinelander Fire Department Chief Brian Tonnancour, the fire started in a porch on the home around 2 p.m. Wednesday. When firefighters arrived on site, Tonnancour said, the home was fully engulfed. The RFD initiated a “fire attack to the rear of the structure and protect exposures.”
The occupant of the home was able to get out when the fire was discovered.
One responder was treated for heat exhaustion on scene, but no further medical care was requested. Two residents have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting with temporary shelter.
Pine Lake Fire Rescue and Newbold Fire Department responded via the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Also assisting were the Rhinelander Police Department, Pelican Fire and Rescue, WPS, Oneida County EMS and the Salvation Army.
