City Council approves purchasing ballistic vests and helmets for RFD
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Rhinelander City Council voted Monday night to approve the purchase of ballistic vests and helmets for the fire department at a cost not to exceed $4,500.
Fire chief Terry Williams said the fire department will be able to purchase six ballistic packages to equip firefighters on duty to be able to go into an active shooting incident with the police department.
“They won’t be going in without this,” Williams said.
Williams said the ballistic vests and helmets will be paid for by a portion of the money from the sale of a fire truck.
