OBITUARY: Richard F. Vanney
Richard F. Vanney , age 84 of the Town of Newbold died Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born in Rhinelander July 16, 1931 to Ervin and Lorraine (Champagne) Vanney. Dick was a 1949 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Larson on November 24, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, from 1950 until 1954. After serving in the military the family moved back to Rhinelander where Dick worked at the paper mill for the next 38 years, retiring in 1993. He was a volunteer deliveryman with St. Joseph’s Thrift Shop and was employed part time at American Glass and Musson Brothers. Dick was a past member of the American Legion and was currently a member of the V.F.W. Ray Rousseau Post 3143. He enjoyed deer hunting, was known for his musky fishing, being a real outdoorsman and gardening. He loved his big family, his “shack,” meat cutting and sausage making. Dick loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always enjoyed celebrating Grandkids Day during the summer. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy; children, Paula (Vanney) Drivas, Michael Vanney (Dawn) and Peter (Amy) Vanney all of Rhinelander. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steve and Jeff Vanney and by one sister-in-law, Bev Vanney. No formal services are planned.
