Obituary: June A. McElroy

June Audrey McElroy, age 85, died at her home March 21, 2016. She was born June 29, 1930 in Jennings to Tony and Alice (Daul) Svic. She grew up and attended grade school in Jennings, and later attended high school in Elcho.  June then attended nursing school at Mother Cabrini Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, after which she joined the United States Navy. June was wed to Elliot McElroy and to this union, one son, Jeff McElroy was born. June later divorced and choose to raise her son in Jennings,where she had grown up. June spent many years in the nursing field in Iron Mountain VA Hospital in Mich., and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, and later for Ministries, Inc. which encompassed several hospitals in the area, working as an infection control nurse. June loved the Wolf River where she built her home and lived for many years. In her later years, she moved to Pelican Lake, where she lived with her mother. June loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hobbies including snowmobiling, fishing, and gardening. June had an intense love of animals and enjoyed many pets over the years.
June is survived by her son, Jeff McElroy, and her granddaughters, Alli McElroy and Lindsey (Jason) Gill, all of Lusk, Wyoming.
Memorials can be sent to Oneida County Humane Society, 1852 North Stevens St., Rhinelander, WI 54501.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. You may send your private condolences to the McElroy family to www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home(715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the McElroy family.
