News, in brief

City flushing water mains
The city of Rhinelander water utility is once again flushing the water distribution system, beginning this week. Typical hours of flushing will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and will take approximately four to six weeks. According to the city, the flushing cleans out iron deposits in the water lines, to verify the hydrants are working properly and to assure continued high-quality drinking water. During this time, a discoloration in the water supply may take place, due to the disruption of naturally occurring mineral sediments that accumulate in the mains. Before doing laundry or other projects that may suffer from discolored water, it is advised to make sure the water is running clear.
