Fifth annual cross country ski clinic
The School District of Rhinelander Community Education program is offering an opportunity for all community members to learn how to cross-country ski. A cross-country ski clinic, sponsored by Mel’s Trading Post, is set for Feb. 24, 9 a.m.-noon at the Rhinelander High School trails and fields. Participants will learn the basics of the sport. No skis? Visit Mel’s Trading Post before the day of the course to get pre-fitted. There is no charge for equipment use. All ages are welcome to participate. Instructor will be Mike Bellile from Mel’s. Fee is $10 per person. Register by Feb. 20 by visiting the “community” section of the school district website. For more information, call 715-365-9745.
Looking for teens with character
The YMCA of the Northwoods is seeking nominations for the organization’s annual Teen Character Awards. The awards recognize teens that demonstrate the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and who have made positive changes in their lives and in the community. Any adult can nominate teens they feel deserve recognition by filling out a nomination form and returning it to the YMCA of the Northwoods on or before March 16. Forms are available at the Y or online at ymcaofthenorthwoods.com.
Tax forms at the library
Federal and state tax forms 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ, including rent certificates and homestead forms are available at the Rhinelander District Library. Pre-printed forms and booklets are in limited supply and free to the public. Additional forms and schedules are available for 10 cents per print. Tax forms and instruction booklets for all 50 states are available via the internet workstations at the library, or from home at www.irs.gov. Hardcopies of booklets may be mail-ordered online by individuals at IRS.gov/orderforms or 1-800-829-3676. Wisconsin tax information is available on the internet at www.dor.state.wi.us. Annual Sustainability Fair seeks exhibitors
Sustainability Northwoods is planning its annual Earth Day event, the Sustainability Fair, to be at Nicolet College Sunday, April 22; from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is open to organizations interested in “celebrating environmentally-conscious alternatives in the Northwoods.” The theme is “Sustainability Where you’d Least Expect to Find it.” Fee is $20, and is free to non-profits.
