Obituary: Alfreda “Fritzy” Johnson
Alfreda “Fritzy” B. Johnson, age 80, of Harshaw, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk. Fritzy was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Rhinelander, to the late Alfred and Marie (Runge) Wittrock. She was married to William Johnson on June 27, 1964; he survives.
After graduating from high school, Fritzy got the perfect job working at Rhinelander Brewery. She also worked at Daniels until her marriage in 1964. She lovingly raised her children and, once they were older, started her career in cooking. Fritzy worked at several restaurants including Treaders Club 47, The Claridge House, and most recently, Wolf’s Log Cabin where she was well known for her famous clam chowder soup. She loved making people laugh. There was never a dull moment when around her. In her younger years, she was an excellent softball player and bowler. She was always the life of the party. Fritzy enjoyed weekly breakfasts with the “Sunday Crew.” A special thank you goes out to that “crew” for always lending a helping hand. Also, thank you to Beth from Magic Scissors for her patience and laughs. Fritzy was a great mother who loved attending her children’s events and always put the needs of others before herself. She will truly be missed by all. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, CNAs, therapists and staff at the area hospitals and nursing homes where Fritzy recently stayed. There are truly some wonderful people in this world.
Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, William Johnson, of Harshaw; two daughters, Paula Rood, of Reno, Nev., and Tina (Pat Baumbgardner) Johnson, of Harshaw; two brothers, John (Mary Jo) Wittrock, of Rhinelander, and Wayne (Kathie) Wittrock, of Oklahoma; two sisters, Janice Jewell, and Christine Wedler, both of Rhinelander.
Fritzy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Marie; five brothers, Richard, Ralph, Bobby, Charlie, and Tommy; and one sister, Eleanor.
Memorial services for Alfreda “Fritzy” Johnson will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m., at Generations Funeral Home in Tomahawk. Chaplain John Uhlarik will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m.
