Obituary: Dorothy M. Swedberg
Dorothy M. Swedberg, 92, Rhinelander, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She was born June 30, 1921, in Rhinelander to Joseph and Eleanor (Nolda) Biernier. Dorothy attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and Rhinelander High School. Following her schooling, she was employed as a housekeeper for the Forsyth and Gibson families as well as for Dr. Wright. Later, she was employed at the Red Top Tourist Court and the Wonder Bar and Hotel. Dorothy then began her employment at Holiday Acres Resort where she worked for 43 years. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord / St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Joseph’s Women’s Club. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her children, traveling, crocheting, embroidering, cooking, and making homemade bread. She was also an avid bird watcher; enjoying visitors to her feeder. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Leo) Cure of Harshaw, Kathleen (David) Dykstra of Sullivan, WI, Judy Jensen of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, Dorothy “Dottie” Windorff of Rhinelander, and Renee (Mark) Schwanz of Rhinelander; her sons, Jimmy (Karen) Windorff of Rhinelander, Bernie Swedberg of Schofield, and Bruce (Laurie) Pieper of Tomahawk; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Delashmit of Cleveland, Tennessee; and a brother, Bernard Biernier of Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon “Swede” Swedberg; a sister, Alice Crane; and three brothers, Francis and Henry Biernier. A graveside service for Dorothy will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Michael Henry officiating.
