Honor Guard ceremony retires flags

RHINELANDER – The Northwoods Honor Guard held a flag retirement ceremony June 14. According to the U.S. Department of Defense website, a flag retirement ceremony, traditionally held on Flag Day, is a “dignified method of honoring and disposing of flags that are weatherworn, torn or otherwise unusable.”

Joining the guard at the Cross Country Bar & Grill were local scout troops and members of the community. The Pine Lake Fire Department kept the fire under control during and after the ceremony. Photos by Dave Melancon.
