Area Special Olympians compete

Rhinelander Area 2-05 Special Olympics competed at the 2023 Summer Games at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on June 9-10. Five athletes qualified for this year’s track and field events.

Pictured from left, Aaron Hass placed sixth in the 100 meter walk, fifth place mini-javelin, fifth place shot put; Jonathan Ankrom placed third in mini-javelin, sixth place standing long jump; Daniel Strutz came in fifth in the 100 meter run, fifth place in the 800 meter run, first place in the running long jump; Darrick Nelson took fifth place in the 100 meter run; fifth place 200 meter run, and first place running long jump; Christopher Buhl took first place in the 100 meter walk, second in shot put.

The athletics team was coached this past season by Rod Ankrom and Anna Mathy. Rhinelander Area Special Olympic athletes will transition into bocce ball competition this month. For more information about Rhinelander Special Olympics, call 715-362-4792.
