MERRILL – The Hodag boys hockey team had their Thursday game postponed with Antigo due to Antigo’s health and safety concerns but had been scheduled to participate in the East Merrill tournament on the weekend.

Friday night the Hodags faced Jeffers Michigan and defeated them 6-1 to make it to the championship game Saturday. Medford defeated the East/Merrill team on Friday and played the Hodags on Saturday. The Hodags came out strong in the contest scoring five goals in the first, seven in the second and two more in the third for the 14-3 win. Cal Laggis scored three goals, one in each period. Also adding three goals was sophomore Joey Belanger. The Hodags next play Jan. 18 in Medford for a rematch in a conference game.

RHINELANDER – The second half of the Great Northern Conference girls basketball schedule began at Rhinelander against the visiting Tomahawk Hatchets. The Hodags defeated the Hatchets 66-11 in Tomahawk at the beginning of the season. It did not get much better for the Hatchets in Rhinelander as the score at the half was 40-5 with all of Tomahawk’s points coming on free throws.

Audrey Schiek scored 22 points in the first half on her way to a 33 point night in the 60-13 win. Ava Lamers was the only other Hodag in double digits with 10 points. Senior Brynn Brzycki was not suited up for the game but was not needed as everyone on the bench saw playing time in the second half.
