The last of the high-risk high school sports faced an opponent Friday night as the Hodag football team scrimmaged against the Northland Pines Eagles at Mike Webster Stadium.
The format on the evening was three 30-minute running-clock periods and was played mostly as a game. Exceptions were no kick offs and no punt returns. Punts were done with no rush from the defense and the ball was dead where it was caught or landed.
The Hodag defense did not allow a point while the offense scored five touchdowns. The first two periods were played mostly by the number one offense and defense with normal substitutions.
The third was played with backup and JV players. JV quarterback Carter Krueger guided the squad to a touchdown and ran the 2-point conversion in himself.
Players from both sides were excited to get back on the field and hit someone with a different colored jersey than their own. The Hodags next take on Antigo in Antigo for the annual Bell Game next Friday.
