GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hodags down Medford in 2nd half

RHS clinches 2nd place in GNC

After trailing by three points at halftime Friday night, the Rhinelander High School varsity girls basketball team won the battle for second place in the Great Northern Conference with a 62-51 home victory over Medford.

The Hodags had two players score in double figures led by Ally Seefeldt with 24 points and Kenedy Van Zile adding 14 points.

RHS outshot the Raiders from the field overall, 24-48 (50 percent) to 19-54 (35.2 percent), and from the free-throw line, 13-21 (61.9 percent) to 10-21 (47.6 percent).

The win improved the Hodags’ season record to 9-2 in the GNC and 12-9 overall going into this Friday’s regular-season finale at Antigo. Regardless of the outcome of this Friday’s conference game, RHS has already clinched second place in the GNC. Lakeland Union High School has repeated as the conference champion.

The Hodags open WIAA Division 2 tournament play as the No. 5 seed in their regional Feb. 20 when they host No. 12-seeded Waupaca. The winner advances to the regional semifinal Feb. 23 at No. 4-seeded Merrill.
