STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School boys swimming team recorded seven top-three finishes Friday when the Hodags placed fourth out of six teams in the Great Northern Conference meet held at Lakeland Union High School.

LUHS placed first in eight of the 11 events and won the team title with 322 points, followed by Tomahawk (274), Shawano (244), RHS (226), Antigo (137) and Medford (62).

The Hodags’ only first-place finish came in the 200-yard medley relay with Martin Hoger, Thaddeus Heck, David King and Russell Benoy recording the top time of 1 minute, 47.13 seconds.

RHS’s 200 freestyle relay was 1.85 seconds off the Thunderbirds’ winning pace when Hoger, Benoy, Joseph Heck and Devon Gaber finished runner-up in 1:34.29.

The Hodags had a 2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke with Joseph and Thaddeus Heck finishing in 1:05.19 and 1:05.25, respectively. LUHS’s Tyler Teichmiller won the event in 1:03.66.

Benoy added a pair of third-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (22.8) and 100 freestyle (51.26), while King placed third in the 100 butterfly (58.0).

Up next for RHS is the WIAA Division 2 Sectional this Saturday in Hudson.
