HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Hodags win GNC meet
RHS with 11 of 14 wrestlers in top 3

The Rhinelander High School wrestling team had five individual champions with its 11 top-three finishes in the 14 weight classes Saturday when the Hodags placed first in the six-team Great Northern Conference tournament held at Lakeland Union High School.
RHS won the team title with 393 points, followed by Antigo (351), Medford (341), Lakeland (297), Tomahawk (280) and Mosinee (181).
RHS’s individual conference champions included Reuben Guzik (113), Tyler Olson (120), Jacob DeMeyer (145), Alec Kurtz (195) and Colton Krueger (285).
DeMeyer won all five of his matches on pins. Krueger also won all five matches with three pins, a major decision and a decision. Kurtz won all four of his matches with three pins and a forfeit victory. Guzik recorded three pins and a decision to win all four of his matches. Olson placed first with three wins in four matches that included winning twice on pins, a decision victory and a decision loss.
The Hodags’ Tim Fox (106) placed second in his four-wrestler bracket with two pin victories and a loss. RHS’s five third-place finishers included Scott Fox (170), who finished 4-1, and Walker Hartman (138), Kyle Kuester (160), Hunter Greyhair (182) and Trevor Knapp (220), who each went 3-2 for the tournament.
Up next for the Hodags is the WIAA Division 1 Regional Tournament next Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids.
