BOYS SWIMMING: Hodags lose season opener to Antigo, 98-72

STAR JOURNAL REPORT
Placing first in seven of the 11 events wasn’t enough for the Rhinelander High School boys swimming team to win its opening dual meet of the season.
The Hodags recorded only four runner-up finishes and placed third in one event while ending up losing Tuesday’s home meet to Antigo, 98-72.
RHS sophomore Nolan Francis won both the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 9.11 seconds) and 100 butterfly (58.33) and joined sophomore Martin Hoger and freshmen Thaddeus Heck and Devon Gaber to place first in the 200 medley relay (1:55.57).
Hodags sophomore Russell Benoy also recorded a pair of individual victories by winning both the 50 freestyle (24.98) and 100 freestyle (57.43). RHS’s other two first-place finishes came from Hoger in the 100 backstroke (1:11.05) and Heck in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.54).
The Hodags’ two individual second-place finishes were recorded by freshman David King in the 200 freestyle (2:12.13) and 500 freestyle (6:07.97). King also was part of two runner-up finishes in the relay events when he joined Benoy, Heck and junior Conor Natrop in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.3) and Benoy, Hoger and Francis in the 400 freestyle relay (3:58.51).
Hoger added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (6:19.43).
RHS’s next meet is Thursday at Tomahawk.
