BOYS SWIMMING: Hodags 7th at Ashwaubenon Invite

The Rhinelander High School boys swimming team competed at Saturday’s Ashwaubenon Invite and placed seventh out of 12 teams with 159 points.
Points were awarded for the top-16 finishes ranging from 20 points for first to a point for 16th in individual events with the points doubled for the three relays. Bay Port won the team title with 520 points, followed by Ashwaubenon (263), Lakeland (262), Appleton North/East (247) and Stevens Point (194) rounding out the top five.
The Hodags picked up 68 points in the three relays with Russell Benoy, Devon Gaber, Martin Hoger and Joseph Heck placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1 minute, 35.89 seconds); Hoger, Benoy, Thaddeus Heck and David King fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.95); and King, Gaber, Joseph Heck and Thaddeus Heck 12th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.64).
RHS’s top individual finish was recorded by Benoy, who placed third in the 50 freestyle (23.08), while Gaber added a 15th-place finish in 24.7. Benoy also placed ninth in the 100 freestyle (52.74) with Joseph Heck ending up 15th in 53.98.
Thaddeus Heck and Joseph Heck placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke in times of 1:07.67 and 1:08.79.
Other individual swimmers scoring points for the Hodags included: King, seventh, 100 butterfly (58.99), and 10th, 500 freestyle (5:46.06); and Hoger, eighth 100 backstroke (1:02.89), and 10th, 200 individual medley (2:23.62).
Up next for RHS is a Great Northern Conference dual meet Thursday at Antigo.
