Thomas S. Hogan, age 75, of Rhinelander died in his home Friday, March 25, 2016, just days before his 76th birthday. Tom was born in Clintonville  April 10, 1940. He married his wife, Judith Ann Hogan, on June 19, 1965 and the couple moved to Rhinelander.  Tom taught math at James Williams Jr. High School for 29 years.

Tom was an avid golfer and accomplished square dance caller. Golfing was probably his greatest joy in life, and he was a member of the Rhinelander Country Club for many years. He was proud of having three hole-in-ones; one was witnessed by his son, Steven. Tom called square dancing as part of the Hodag Twirlers club of Rhinelander. He spent hours honing his calling, and used his teaching skills to teach and mentor many new dancers in the Rhinelander area. For years, he danced and called with his wife, Judy, all around the Northwoods, and held leadership positions in the Wisconsin Square Dance Association. Tom was also a passionate Democrat and an active leader in the local teacher’s union.

Tom loved living in the Northwoods. Since retirement, he enjoyed staying at home feeding the birds and the deer on the couple’s property on North Rifle Road, in the Town of Crescent. In the 1970s and 80s, the couple made maple syrup from the tress on their property and cultivated large vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed deer hunting on the property. Tom was fond of saying, “this is God’s country.” He would tell his children, “You know where to find us.”

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Aloysius and Clara Hogan. He is survived by wife, Judy; daughter, Heather Leigh; son, Steven Hogan; daughter-in-law, Ember Hogan; sister, Pat Payne and brothers, Bill and Sam Hogan.

Services will be held at a later date.
