Website will connect northern Wisconsin grazing lands with drought-stricken farmers

Property owners in Forest County with lands that might prove suitable for rent for cattle grazing are encouraged to list their property available on a website. To list your property, visit farmertofarmer.crowdmap.com, and then click on “Submit a Report” in the upper right hand corner. Follow the instructions to list your land as available for rent. The site was created by the UW-Extension, Cooperative Extension.

The drought in Southern Wisconsin has moved from moderate to severe, and there appears to be no immediate rain in the forecast. This drought could seriously impact farmers that have been trying to recover from the low milk prices of a few years ago. The prospect of having to purchase hay for their cattle is creating unsustainability for farmers in the drought area.

Relative to Southern Wisconsin, Northern Wisconsin has had, in some areas, more precipitation and property owners might be able to send a lifeline to other farmers while at the same time creating revenue opportunity on idle land.

Property owners interested in seeking help getting lands listed on the site can contact the Forest County Economic Development Partnership office at (715) 784-6069, or email director@forestcountywibusiness.com.
