Vilas child support agency receives two state awards
Updated Mon., 5/14 – At the Director’s Dialogue for Child Support Agencies, held in Stevens Point on May 3-4, Vilas County received two awards for meeting or exceeding state and federal performance standards.
“According to the Department of Workforce Development Wisconsin’s unemployment averaged 7.5 percent and Vilas County averaged 9.4 percent in 2011,” noted Joy Schmitz, Director of Vilas County Child Support. “So winning both a Certificate for Outstanding Achievement for 2011 and a Certificate of Recognition for Reduction of Unproductive Arrearage Cases were great accomplishments for the Vilas County Child Support Agency.”
Vilas County was one of eleven counties to receive the Outstanding Achievement award which is earned by counties that meet or exceed the federal performance standards for paternity establishment (90 percent or better) and court order establishment (80 percent or better). Vilas County’s rate was 105.63 percent for paternity establishment and for court order establishment, Vilas County’s rate was 94.96 percent, which ranked 3rd in the State.
In order to receive the Certificate of Recognition for Reduction of Unproductive Arrearage Cases, the agency had to exceed the state-targeted performance level by 200 percent.
Accepting the awards for Vilas County, Schmitz stated “These awards are a testament to the hard work by the Child Support Agency staff consisting of Child Support Specialists, Marcie Farness and Margaret Garsow, fiscal clerk Cherie Klopp and Assistant Corporation Counsel Tara Alfonso who handled the legal aspects for the office.”
