Obituary: Grant Hilliker
Grant Gilbert Hilliker, age 99 of Rhinelander, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Rhinelander. He was born June 26, 1921, in Tunnel City to Vern and Celeste (Reich) Hilliker.
After graduating from UW-Madison, Grant served in the Army signal corps from 1943-46 in Germany, and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. He later served in the Foreign Service as a US Diplomat around the world, achieving the position of Consul General in Brazil.
Grant is survived by his daughters, Janet Lee Hilliker (George Carns) of Milwaukee, and Laurie Groskopf (Mike Hagen) of Tomahawk; one grandson; two great-grandsons; special friends Bob Erickson of Columbus, Ohio and Doreen Boxrud of Rhinelander. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Dean Barnlund, Ave and Jim Kelly; brother and sister-in-law, Leigh V. and Jane Hilliker; and nephew, Bruce Hilliker. Interment and a ceremony will take place at a later date. (Carlson Funeral Home)
