Northwoods Nordic ski club has big plans for foundation grant
As the weather and landscapes are transitioning in the colder season, the Rhinelander Community Foundation is helping the Northwoods Nordic ski club prepare for upcoming winter activities. RCF recently granted Northwoods Nordic ski club $2,500, part of which will be used to upgrade their trail grooming equipment.
Shane Teter, president of Northwoods Nordic ski club, said two major objectives of the ski club are to groom and care for the Rhinelander community Nordic ski trails and to support the youth Nordic club, which has grown exponentially in the past few years.
“It’s important to support groups like the Northwoods Nordic ski club so they can continue growing,” said RCF board member Brian Wendt.
In addition, the grant will help the club obtain FIS (Federation Internationale de Ski) certification, with hopes that the certification of the newly improved CAVOC trail will deem it suitable for large scale competitions such as the Junior Olympics.
“A ‘homologated’ trail in Rhinelander would be unique–the only Wisconsin trail suitable for Junior Nationals Olympic qualifier competition,” said Northwoods Nordic board member Mark Nienstaedt. “It would not only solidify CAVOC’s reputation as a premier race venue for middle and high school competitions but it would put the Nordic club in a position to bring more NCAA/CCSA collegiate, Junior National Olympic qualifier, and even ‘Super Tour’ (international) competitions to Rhinelander.”
Rhinelander Community Foundation’s mission is to facilitate charitable giving, enhancing the quality of living in the Rhinelander area now and for future generations. For more information about RCF, visit the organization’s website.
