Rhinelander Little League All-Stars advance to championship tournament
The Rhinelander 9 and 10-year-old All Star Team return to action in District 5 play on Tuesday evening in Wausau.
The Hodags faced off against Antigo, who also entered the game 2-0 in tournament play. The Hodags came out swinging hot bats and after one inning, they held a 6-0 lead on 7 base hits.
That would be enough for the Hodags as they ended up winning 9-4. Walker Hartman led the hitting attack by going 3-for-3 with two lacing doubles driving in three runs. Joe Schneider went 2-for-4 with one double and two RBI. Also collecting hits were Isaac Bixby, Payton Johnson, Quinn Lamers and Jordan Kuczmarski.
Alex Fortier started on the mound and picked up the win. He threw three innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. Bixby then pitched 2 1/3 giving up three runs on three hits. Jacksen Smith closed out the game, pitching 2/3 of an inning and retiring both batters he faced.
The Hodags will now advance to the championship round in the double elimination tournament. They will play Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in Rib Mountain at Doepke Park. The opponent will be the winner of Wednesday nights game between Antigo and Wausau.
