Holperin to compete at National Geographic Bee in Madison
Max Holperin, son of David and Julie Holperin and an 8th grade student at Nativity Catholic School in Rhinelander, has qualified to participate in the 2013 National Geographic Bee on April 5 in Madison.
Holperin won the school bee in February and then took the state-qualifying test given by the National Geography Society. In each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense dependent schools and the U.S. territories, the National Geographic Society invited the students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level.
This is Holperin’s second trip to the state competition. He will compete for a $100 prize and a trip to Washington, D.C., in May to compete in the national finals hosted by Alex Trebek.
The national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to the Galapagos Islands to experience geography firsthand through up-close encounters with the wildlife and landscapes of the islands.
National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild will air the final round of the 2013 National Geographic Bee on Thursday, May 23. Check local television listings for the air date and time.
