YMCA first choice for visiting NFL player
When recent Cincinnati Bengals first round draft pick Kevin Zeitler planned his vacation in Eagle River this summer, he searched for a gym to continue training during his trip. What he found was the phenomenal facility at the YMCA in the Northland Pines High School. The Y has been the first choice for many visiting professional athletes in sports ranging from snowboarding to Olympic lifting to football.
Zeitler, a former Wisconsin Badger football player, was aware that future Badgers football player Austin Ramesh was a Northland Pines High School student. Zeitler contacted Coach Swanson about training with Ramesh and the rest of the team. “I was contacted by Kevin’s future father-in-law and presented with the unusual opportunity to have our students train with Kevin,” said Eric Swanson, NPHS head football coach. “I think the team got a good perspective on what it takes to proceed in football at the professional level.”
Zeitler’s visit impressed YMCA personal trainer Kevin Schweer. “These high school athletes are blessed and lucky to have an NFL player-the 27th overall draft pick-to train with for the week,” he said. “The guy is massive and could teach the kids what to do to be successful in football.”
