Structure fire displaces two in Rhinelander

A damage assessment is underway following a structure fire at 529 Maple Street in Rhinelander last night.
Rhinelander Fire Chief Brian Tonnancour reported the fire department responded to the scene at 11:29 p.m. Dec. 4, to find flames showing from one side of the duplex. According to a news release, firefighters attacked the affected area of the structure and entered the interior as part of the operation.
One tenant escaped when the fire was discovered and was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. The other tenant was not at home at the time but was located.
The two residents have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting one with temporary shelter while the other was able to stay with a relative.
Crescent, Newbold and Pine Lake fire departments responded through mutual aid. Others assisting were the Rhinelander Police Department, Rhinelander Streets Department, Red Cross, WPS, Oneida County Dispatch and Oneida County EMS.
