The American Legion regional tournament took place over the weekend. Rhinelander had to play an extra game against Northwood on Friday afternoon, with the winner taking on Medford in a 7 p.m. game.

The Rebels won the first game with Max Ratty pitching. The nightcap had Ryan Jamison on the mound. Jamison no-hit Medford until the fifth inning when Medford finally tallied a hit. The Rebels won the game and then faced Merrill Saturday afternoon.

In a pitcher’s duel, the Rebels Jackson Smith pitched a complete game but came up on the short end of a 1-2 score.

The Merrill game put the Rebels into the losers bracket where they played Medford on Sunday at noon with the winner playing Merrill at 3 p.m. Dylan Vanderbunt was the starting pitcher for the Rebels but did not make it through the second inning, giving up six runs. Too many walks and errors in the field accounted for the short start.

Sam Schneider came on in relief and gave up two runs for a final score of 4-8, ending the Rebels’ season.

This was the last game for three 2022 graduates, Ryan Jamison, Jackson Smith and Kolby Ridderbusch.

Sam Schneider relieved Vanderbunt on the mound and finished the game giving up two runs.
