RHINELANDER – A Stevens Point man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for his part in the 2019 overdose death of an Oneida County woman.

DALTON KAMPF

Dalton U. Kampf, 26, formerly of Rhinelander, pleaded guilty last week to charges of first degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs, and possession with intent to deliver heroin. Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies said Kampf sold drugs to the victim who died in August 2019 after using the drug.

Oneida County Circuit Judge Michael Bloom sentenced Kampf to three years in prison followed by two years of extended supervision on the charge of first degree reckless homicide; and three years in prison and four years extended supervision on the heroin possession charge. The sentences will be served consecutively. Kampf was given credit for 558 days, or approximately 18 months he has served in jail.

Special prosecutor Cass Cousins of the Wisconsin Department of Justice prosecuted the case against Kampf. The victim’s mother, stepfather, and a friend were among those making statements to the court prior to sentencing. Several letters of support were received by the court on the defendant’s behalf.
