Residents of Phoenix Villa displaced following weekend fire

Officials say fire appears to be accidental

Clean up is underway at a Rhinelander apartment complex following an early-morning fire over the weekend. The fire Sunday morning at the Phoenix Villa Apartments on Mason Street displaced 26 residents and sent one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The Rhinelander Fire Department says the fire started in a room on the second floor. It was contained and put out by firefighters. The department is investigating what caused the fire, but officials believe it was accidental.
The Red Cross and Oneida County Social Services are currently helping residents who have been displaced due to water damage from the apartments’ sprinkler system.
Contractors are hoping all residents will be able to return to their units soon.
Phoenix Villa Apartments is a 28-unit, two-story building designated for older residents.
