A Crandon High School ninth grader is the winner of the 2020 Youth Art Contest sponsored by the Wisconsin Indian Education Association (WIEA). Dion Daniels, a member of the Forest County Potawatomi Nation, submitted a self portrait drawn in the the WIEA conference theme, “Indigenous STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math.”

“Dion’s self-portrait encompasses all the elements of this year’s conference theme and really showcases his raw artistic ability,” said WIEA 2020 conference planning committee chairwoman Brittany LaMere. “We were very impressed with this piece – it spoke to us on so many levels.”

Daniels’ artwork will be used as the conference logo and he will be honored at the WIEA annual awards banquet Saturday, April 18. Daniels will receive $150 for his winning entry.
