Construction season begins with Stevens Street closure

Portions of Stevens Street in downtown Rhinelander will be closed for major road work beginning April 15. Stevens Street between Frederick Street and Timber Drive will be closed for approximately a month for road repair. A detour around the closed area is in place, routing traffic to Brown Street. In addition, utility work is being completed on Stevens Street between Timber Drive and Harvey Street, and though that section is open for local traffic, delays are expected. Other sections of Stevens Street will be under construction throughout the summer.
In addition to the Stevens Street plan, other work being completed in the near future was outlined at last week’s meeting of the Rhinelander City Council. The walkways and crosswalks on Kemp Street are slated for repair later this summer after the temporary signal lights set up for the round-about construction have been removed. A grind and overlay on Woodland Drive is being considered for this year as well. This would allow the city to hold off on full reconstruction of that street until the utility replacement for that area, which is scheduled for 2029. This will be important since Woodland Drive will be a detour route for the Stevens Street construction scheduled for later in the summer.
