Portion of Stevens Street blocked off to fix water leak
Water pushed up on road where Streetscape work occurred
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
A portion of Stevens Street in front of McDonald’s in Rhinelander was blocked off to traffic Wednesday morning when workers dug up the road to fix a water leak that pushed up the pavement, said city public works director Kingman.
Kingman said the leak was first noticed Tuesday when water bubbled through the pavement as a result of a 2-inch service line breaking off from a water main that had was replaced in 2016 during the downtown Streetscape project.
He said water breaks can happen with new construction as well as with pipes that have been in the ground for several years.
To correct the problem, which affected water service to five customers, Kingman said workers from Musson Brothers were called in with the portion of the road where the leak was discovered being dug out.
Upon the repairs being made, the trench dug in the road was refilled with the street reopened to traffic midday Wednesday.
