Merrill man arrested on suspected child sexual assault charges

A Merrill man is in jail on a $100,000 cash bond, after being charged in Lincoln County Circuit Court with three charges related to attempted child sexual assault.
James S. Ament, 51, is facing three felony charges – attempted first degree sexual assault of a child, use of a computer to facilitate a sex crime and child enticement.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Ament had been communicating with an undercover detective who was posing as a 10-year-old boy, trying multiple times to arrange a meeting for sex with the detective posing as the boy.
Officers arranged a meeting in a Merrill park for Aug. 23 and when Ament arrived he was taken in to custody. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5.
