STAR JOURNAL REPORT
An Eagle River Democrat has announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 34th District. Chris Meier is an Army veteran, a Wisconsin native and 25-year resident of Vilas County. He was a classroom teacher in the Phelps School District and is currently an Adjunct Instructor at Nicolet College.

“Our campaign is all about local issues and practical needs, not outside interests and politics as usual,” Meier said. “There are holes in our roads, holes in our school budgets, and holes in our county budgets. I was taught when you find yourself in a hole you stop digging. We can’t expect to solve these problems with the thinking that got us here. There’s a better way forward, and that’s why I’m running.”

Meier said a priority is economic development and job creation that is “compatible with the 34th Assembly District’s thriving tourism economy.”

Meier, who holds certification from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a substance abuse counselor, said no one is immune from the effects of substance abuse.

The 34th Assembly District includes portions of Vilas, Oneida, Florence and Forest counties.
