HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASTICS: Hodags top small division at Antigo Invite

The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team had at least one top-three finisher in each individual event Saturday when the Hodags placed first out the seven teams in the small school division at the Antigo Invitational.

RHS recorded the top score of 117.825, followed by Mosinee (107.725), Medford (101.65), Kaukauna (101.275), Chequamegon (94.55), Lakeland (56.525) and Washburn (47.95).

The Hodags had a gymnast finish ahead of everyone except Washburn sophomore Lakyn Sonday, who won the all-around competition (34.125) and placed first in all four individual events by topping the balance beam (8.025), floor exercise (8.85), uneven bars (8.25) and vaulting (9.0).

RHS senior Stephanie Kuester placed runner-up in the all-around competition (31.9) and also finished second on the uneven bars (7.725), in vaulting (8.275) and in the floor exercise (8.35), while placing sixth on the balance beam (7.55). Junior Raven Sturtevant ended up third in the all-around competition (31.7) and placed second on the balance beam (7.925) and in the floor exercise (8.35), third on the uneven bars (7.325) and fifth in vaulting (8.05).

The Hodags’ other top-10 individual finishes included: freshman Bridget Koser, fifth in the floor exercise (7.675); freshman Autumn Shafer, seventh in the floor exercise (7.5); senior Alyssa Mitchell, seventh on the balance beam (7.1); and Harlie Zimmermann, ninth on the uneven bars (6.175).

Up next for RHS is a home dual meet Feb. 8 against Medford.
