GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hodags hold their own in 64-58 loss to SPASH

The Rhinelander High School varsity girls basketball kept Thursday night’s non-conference home game close against one of the top-ranked Division 1 teams in the state, but ended up losing to Stevens Point Area Senior High, 64-58.

The Hodags, who also trailed by six points at halftime, had three players end up scoring in double figures. Kenedy Van Zile led the team with 23 points, followed by Ally Seefeldt with 19 points and Maddie Meyer scoring 11 more.

SPASH’s three players to score in double figures included Leah Earnest (23), Madisyn Rogan (13) and Maggie Negaard (11).

RHS’s season record stands at 9-7 overall and 6-1 in the Great Northern Conference going into Friday night’s game at conference-leading Lakeland Union High School.

Hodags: Kenedy Van Zile 23, Ally Seefeldt 19, Alayna Franson 2, Molly Wagler 3, Maddie Meyer 11. 3-pointers: Seefeldt 5, Meyer. Free throws: 18-23. Fouls: 17.
