Rhinelander Athletes head to State Special Olympics
The School District of Rhinelander participated in the Special Olympics Regional meet held in Merrill last weekend. All of the athletes had a strong finish to the season.
Six qualified for the state meet to be held at UW-Stevens Point June 8-10:
•Paige Appling with her 3rd place finish in the shot put, 100-meter run as well as her first-place finish in the javelin throw. Allison Brunette placed first in the softball throw for her division.
•Stephan Herrmann qualified with his first-place throw in his softball division; he also had a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter run.
•Emma Knapp will be running the 50-meter run with her first place finish as well as competing in the softball throw, as she took second place in that event.
•James Michniak will be competing in the 100-meter run with his second-place finish along with participating in the softball throw with his first place finish.
•Devon Stanley will be competing in the softball throw with a third place finish and the 100-meter run with his second place finish.
Seven athletes competed well, but missed qualifying for State:
•Maria Dornfeld placed fourth in the softball throw and 50-meter run.
•Miguel Gonzalez placed second in the softball throw and third in the 50-meter run.
•Neveah Johnson took third in the softball throw and seventh in the 100-meter run.
•Hannah Karstedt placed seventh in the softball throw and fourth in the 50-meter run.
•Erik Ratdke placed third in the shot put, seventh in the 100-meter run and fourth in the javelin throw.
•Spencer Smith placed fifth in the softball throw and second in the 50-meter run.
•Drake Winters placed third in the softball throw and sixth in the 100-meter run.
