BOYS BASEBALL: Hodags to host Green Bay Southwest in WIAA D1 tourney opener

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School varsity baseball team has received the No. 6 seed in its WIAA Division 1 Sectional and will open tournament play at home May 30 at 5 p.m. against No. 11-seeded Green Bay Southwest.

The winner will advance to the tournament’s second round June 1 to face No. 3-seeded De Pere at De Pere for the right to play in the sectional semifinal June 6 at 1 p.m. at Wausau West.

Other teams in the Hodags’ half of the sectional include No. 7-seeded Bay Port and No. 10-seeded Pulaski, which face each other to open the tournament with the winner playing No. 2-seeded Wausau West.

Green Bay Preble, which is the sectional’s overall top seed, is in the other half of the tournament bracket that includes No. 4-seeded Green Bay East/West, No. 5-seeded D.C. Everest, No. 8-seeded Green Bay Notre Dame, No. 9-seeded Ashwaubenon and No. 12-seeded Wausau East.
