GIRLS SWIMMING: Hodags 5th at Eau Claire North Invite

Kiah Francis wins pair of events

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

A pair of top individual finishes by senior Kiah Francis highlighted the Rhinelander High School girls swimming team’s fifth-place showing out of nine teams at Saturday’s Eau Claire North Invite.

Francis won both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 1.31 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:00.09). She also joined Marisa McGuire, Taylor Macak and Grace Heck to finish third in the 400 freestyle (4:05.19) and Maddie Quinn, McGuire and Heck to place fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:02.45).

RHS’s best finish in the 200 freestyle relay came from Carly Seidl, Jenna Hawley, Macak and Taylor Hollands placing eighth in 1:56.19.

Heck recorded a pair of top-10 individual finishes by placing sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:10.28) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:00.24). Hollands, Macak and Quinn went 8-9-10, respectively, in the 500 freestyle in times of 6:12.24, 6:17.54 and 6:23.

Other top-10 individual finishes for the Hodags included: Quinn, eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:38.99); Alexandria Gallegos, eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.06); McGuire, ninth in the 200 freestyle (2:17.16).

D.C. Everest swam away with the team title with 458 point. Ladysmith/Flambeau/Bruce was a distant second at 176. RHS had a score of 139 for fifth place.

The Hodags’ next meet is Oct. 6 at Tomahawk.
