Rhinelander police take man into custody after chase, brief standoff
On April 8, at approximately 10:44 a.m., the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office made contact with a male subject in the parking lot of the America’s Best Value Inn located within the city of Rhinelander. This contact was initiated regarding burglaries which had recently occurred within Oneida County.
The male subject fled in a vehicle and led officers on a pursuit through Rhinelander, ultimately ending on Sugarbush Road where the vehicle became stuck in the snow.
At that location, the male subject, identified as Robert L. Flick, 51, held a firearm to his head. Investigators conducted negotiations with Flick and he was taken into custody without incident.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting agencies included the Rhinelander Police Department, Three Lakes Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and Oneida County Emergency Medical Services.
“I am grateful that this ended with a positive outcome to all involved and I commended the assisting agencies for their assistance and teamwork in resolving this potentially dangerous incident,” Sheriff Grady Hartman said.
