Martha “Dottie” Kress, 94, of the town of Crescent, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1918, in the town of Crescent to Chris and Mary Scott.

During World War II, Dottie supported the war effort through her work at a munitions production facility. After returning to Rhinelander, she married Wilfred “Fritz” Kress June 19, 1948, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church. They shared 61 years together until Fritz’s passing Dec. 12, 2009. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker and will be fondly remembered for her excellent cooking abilities. She served as chief cook and camp manager on many Canadian hunting and fishing trips with her family. She was a long time member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.
Dottie is survived by her two sons, David (Lourena) Kress and Donald Kress both of Rhinelander; her grandchildren, Joanne (Jake) Bishop, Timothy Kress, and Andy (Tara) Kress; her great grandchildren, Olivia, Michael, Lukas, and Callie; and her sister, Lorraine “Rainy” Winchell of Rhinelander.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Alice, Esther, Mabel, and Lena; and two brothers, Ray and Bill.
Memorial services for Dottie will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Carlson Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Schoell officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. (Carlson Funeral Home)
