The PEO STAR Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year was recently presented to Florence High School graduating senior Allison Sword.

The $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for success was presented at the Florence High School awards ceremony by Dolores Coyle, Linda Helwig and Rhonda Roen.

After being recommended by a PEO Chapter, 1,691 graduating senior women from the U.S. and Canada applied for the STAR Scholarship. Four of the 302 scholarship recipients are from Wisconsin.

Allison is the daughter of Steve and Jeanette Sword of Florence and the granddaughter of John and Kathy Riopel of Rhinelander. She was recommended for the scholarship by PEO Chapter AO of Rhinelander.

Sword will attend UW-Milwaukee this fall and plans to major in accounting and finance.
