Letter: War is never a factor by Craig Strid
Editor:
Declaring war is never a factor when considering all the things that might contribute to the taking of innocent life by the use of semi automatic weapons or any other firearms. Congress can declare war and immediately ship a mass of barely post-adolescent males and females to kill the enemy. It is a transition of those that were once thinking about family, jobs, future of their children, girlfriends and wives into a life-threatening environment of kill or be killed survival.
They witness treatment of humanity that shocks their morality and separation of recreation of these experiences with others are suppressed and chosen to be not repeated. We teach them to efficiently use the tools of destruction to take life.
They return home to applause of their survival and in appreciation of service which doesn’t cover what we have done to their lives and to their mental destruction and total elimination of innocence. Then there are those who come home as paraplegics, brain damaged or amputees, or who give the ultimate sacrifice for their country to return home in a flag-draped casket.
We then record its history so it can be viewed and read by generations.
Now we focus on gun control, video games and television violence to stop gun violence in this country.
Food for thought…
