Food for Kidz Event in Minocqua

For the fifth year in a row, volunteers from the Lakeland area and surrounding communities will team up with the non-profit organization Food for Kidz to help reduce world hunger. This event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua.

Food for Kidz, a program of feeding children internationally, is an opportunity to serve others by packaging high protein, low cost meals which are then sent to those who need them. Many of those who receive these meals eat one meal a day. The mission of Food for Kidz is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed God’s starving children throughout the world. Last year, at LUHS, 450 volunteers packaged 124,000 meals. Our goal this year is to package 150,000 meals in just four hours. To accomplish this, 600 volunteers are needed. There will be two shifts on Saturday morning. The first shift is 8-10 p.m. and the second is from 10 a.m. -noon. People of all ages are needed from elementary age children, youth, young adults, the elderly, families, and anyone who has a heart ready to help others. Getting involved is easy. Look for volunteer sign-up sheets at many area churches, the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce, MHLT, AV-W AND LUHS schools.

Donations are also needed to pay for the food. Each meal costs only 15 cents, but 150,000 meals will cost $22,500. A donation of $32.40 will buy a box of food that will make 216 meals, but donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated. Make your check payable to Food For Kidz and send it to John Breiten, 1061 Keppler Road, Winchester, WI 54557.
