Optical mission trip collecting used eyeglasses

Susan Laskowski, Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center Optical Department, will be participating in an eye care mission trip to Banica in the Dominican Republic on Jan. 27. She’s going with the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity organization, and has been participating in mission trips with the organization since 1990.

“To be able to help in giving the gift of sight has been extremely rewarding,” Laskowski said. “For many of the patients, this will be the only eye exam and glasses they will receive in a lifetime.”

Each person going on the trip has been requested to bring along 400 pairs of donated eyeglasses, so Ms. Laskowski is asking for community support and seeking used eyeglasses.

“If each person on the team succeeds in collecting the requested number of eyeglasses, the Wisconsin mission team of three optometrists and eight support staff will arrive with more than 4,000 pairs of donated eyeglasses for the nine-day mission,” she said.

If you have eyeglasses to donate prior to Jan. 27, they can be sent to Susan Laskowski, Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center Optical Department, P.O. Box 1390, Minocqua, WI, 54548, or you may drop them off at the Minocqua Center Optical Department on the 2nd floor of the Clinic.

For more information, call Laskowski at (715) 358-1499.
