Eugene Alsteen, 78, of Newbold, died Dec. 18, 2011, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1933, in Rhinelander, to George and Caroline Alsteen. He is survived by his wife, Donna Mae; his daughters, Jenny Lammert, Caroline (Eric) Schweiger and Cindy Alsteen, all of Rhinelander; his sons, George and Herbie, both of Rhinelander; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. He was preceded by his brothers, Herb Alsteen and Bud Alsteen; and his sister, Evie. A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Pine lake Town Hall.

Dorothy Colvin, 76, of Rhinelander, died Dec. 18, 2011, at her home. She was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Elderon, to Glen and Clarinda Bergland. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughter, Debra (Timothy) Sanders of Rhinelander; her sons, Larry of McNaughton and Michael of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her sister, Rosetta (Robert) Severson of Antigo. She was preceded by a sister, Janet Russell; and a brother, Kenneth Bergland. Dorothy enjoyed music and played with a number of local bands. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m., at the Carlson Funeral Home.

Helen McElligott, 87 of Rhinelander, died Dec. 20, 2011, at her home. She was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Chicago, to Joseph and Mary Stukas. She is survived by four children; James J. (Nancy) McElligott of Alpharetta, Ga., Joan M. (Robb) Jensen of Rhinelander, Michael P. (Victoria) McElligott of Naperville, Ill. and Mary P. McElligott of Chicago; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded by her husband, James McElligott; and a brother, Albert. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1986, they relocated to Crescent Lake, and Helen spent 10 years at DeByle’s Clothing as a sales associate. Burial services will be in Chicago. Area friends are invited to attend a remembrance social on Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Claridge.

Katherine K. Wakely
, 69, of Rhinelander, died Dec. 7, 2011, at Ministry Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. She was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Rhinelander, to Walter and Thearse Hankey. She is survived by her children, Christine (Robert) Nelson, Jessica (Michael) Rygg, Ann (Kyle) Ladean, Vickie (Jeff) Paffrath, Michael, Mitchell, Christopher, Jess and John; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her sisters, Helen (James) Crocker, Susan Wakely, Shelby Dutton and Donna (Marlin) Jensen; and three brothers, Bobby (Elizabeth) Hankey, Timothy Hankey and Donald Hankey. She was preceded by her sister, Mary. A memorial service was held Dec. 15 at Carlson Funeral Home.
