Daniel R. Barnes, 74, died Oct. 1, 2011. He was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Posen Ill. He is survived by his wife Amber; his son, Edmund (Michelle) of Oak Forest, Ill.; his daughters, Gwen (John) Steenhoven of Portage, Mich. and Julie (Brian) Weston of Hyde Park, N.Y.; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; his sister, Sharlene (Frank) VanBuren of Santee, Calif.; a brother, Michael (Maureen) Munn of Ettrick; seven step-children, Linda, Sam, Marcie, Kathy, Cindy, Michele and Jeff; and 11 step-grandchildren. He was preceded by his sisters, Barbara DeBenke and Marlene Sarne. Daniel worked as a switchman for the railroad and ran a successful pet shop business. A funeral service was held Oct. 8 at Pine Grove Community Church.

Jim Dvorak, 80, of Rhinelander, died Oct. 2, 2011, at his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1931, in Antigo, to Carl and Nina Dvorak. He is survived by his children, Tammy (Bob) Cobian and Carl (Laurie); four grandchildren; and his former wife, Sue Dvorak. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a DJ for WERL in Rhinelander and then had a 25 year career with General Telephone in the Madison area. Memorial services were held Oct. 7 at the Carlson Funeral Home.

Mary Gould, 80, of Rhinelander, died Oct. 3, 2011, at Seasons of Life Hospice. She was born July 11, 1931, to Walter and Olive Sanderson. She is survived by her cousin, Sue Winter of Harshaw and many others. Mary served as the president of the Rhinelander Women’s Club for four years and was also the director of the Oneida County Department on Aging from 1983 until 1997 when she retired. A funeral service was held Oct. 6 at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home.

Louise A. Hlavka, 92, died Oct. 4, 2011, at Seasons of Life Hospice. She was born April 26, 1919, in Superior, to Joseph and Anna Drahota. She is survived by her son, Frank (Beverly) Hlavka; her daughter, Karen (Thomas) Skoog of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a brother, Robert Drahota of Superior; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Louise was a nurse and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Superior for 30 years. A memorial service was held Oct. 8 at the Carlson Funeral Home.

Philip H. Murphy, 85, of Rice, Minn., died Sept. 9, 2011, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Minn. He was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Arnprior, Ontario, to George and Ruth Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his sons, Thomas (Joann) of Lake Mills, Timothy of Pulaski, Scott (Kathleen) of Wisconsin Rapids and Shaun (Louise “Sugie”) of Rhinelander; his daughter, Jennifer (Gregory) Brandl of Rice; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A gathering is planned for the summer of 2012.

Audrey G. Winquist, 83, of Rhinelander died Oct. 4, 2011. She was born June 2, 1928, in Sugar Camp, to Ira and Freida Basch. She is survived by her daughter Susan (James) Storma of Rhinelander; her son Mark (Sue) Winquist of Camarillo, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, Ray; a granddaughter; her brother, Clint; and her sisters, Lela Sackett and Lila Basch.Audrey worked at the U.S. Post Office from 1968 until 1992. Memorial Services were held on Oct. 7 at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home. Inurnment was in Forest Home Cemetery.
