Obituaries for 8-21

Julius C. Gerdes, 95, of Rhinelander, died Aug. 9, 2011, at his home. He was born March 19, 1916, in Rosebud, N.D., to Julius and Marie Gerdes Sr. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; his daughters, Gloria (Chet) Moore of Rhinelander, Kathryn (Craig) Fowler of Chambersburg, Pa., Jane Walkowski and Nancy (Randy) Knuth, both of Rhinelander; his sons, Dale (Helen) and Ron (Sharon), both of Rhinelander and Greg (Teri) of Wisconsin Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and his brother, Alfred (Hannalore) Gerdes of Rhinelander. He was preceded by three sisters; and seven brothers. Julius was a logger, farmer and owned his own sawmill. He was also a self-employed carpenter and excavator, retiring in 1981. Funeral services were held Aug. 15 at St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Hazel H. Johnson, 80, of Elcho, died Aug. 11, 2011, at her home. She was born July 17, 1931, in Rhinelander to Helen and James “Frank” Hagen. She is survived by her husband, Warren “Doc”; her children, Maryann Brueggmann of Germany, Carolann (Chip) Schoeneck of Rhinelander, Bill, and Pete (Roseanna), both of Elcho; six granchildren; five great grandchildren; and her sisters, Helen Gaston of Seaside, Ore. and Elvira “Scottie” (Dan) Stevens of Rhinelander. She was preceded by a brother, Gordon Hagen. Hazel worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at United Church of Christ in Elcho. Interment was in Elcho Cemetery.

Harold T. Schlottke, 82, of Rhinelander, died Aug. 10, 2011, at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff. He was born July 2, 1929, in Rhinelander, to Edward and Dorothy Schlottke. He is survived by many relatives and friends. He was preceded by his brother, Edward Schlottke; and two sisters, Pearl Klyber and Louise Stotts. Harold was employed by the Rhinelander Paper Mill, retiring from the instrument shop. Burial took place in Forest Home Cemetery on Aug. 12.
