It’s lefse season again and that means the cooks at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rhinelander have been busy. To prepare for the congregation’s annual Christmas Bazaar, 225 pounds have to be peeled, boiled and riced to begin the age old process of making authentic Norwegian Lefse.
The recipe is simple just fresh potatoes, flour, lard, half and half and sugar. But the procedure is very challenging, peeling, boiling and ricing the cooked potatoes. Then combining all ingredients, rolling out very thin before baking on a flat grill.
Under the direction of Sue Johnson and Laura Eagleson about 20 men and women will work for six day shifts to produce nearly 200 packages of the delicious authentic Norwegian Lefse that will be sold at Trinity’s annual Christmas Bazaar. The event will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church 235 N. Stevens Street, Rhinelander from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
In addition to lefse, guests will find lots of delicious bakery, handcrafted items, live wreaths and spirit balls, collectables and white elephant items. Plan to stay for a great luncheon consisting of soups, BBQ’s and homemade pies.
Guests are also encouraged to enjoy Trinity’s “Warm Welcome” free coffee and Christmas cookies served 9-10 a.m. while you wait for the event to open.
The Christmas Bazaar is sponsored by WELCA and money will be used for Lutheran World Relief Mission Projects.
