Families will have an opportunity to exchange gently used youth sports equipment at the upcoming Youth Equipment Swap on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hodag Dome. The free event aims to help local athletes get the gear they need while keeping usable items out of landfills, organizers said in a press release.
Community members are invited to bring any clean, gently used youth sports equipment they no longer need. In return, they can take any items that will be useful to them. The event is donation-based, and no items will be sold. Examples of acceptable gear include cleats, bats, helmets, balls, gloves, shin guards, and rackets.
Certain items, such as clothing, including jerseys and sneakers, as well as bicycles, scooters, or snow sports equipment, will not be accepted. Adult sports equipment, weapons, and hunting or archery gear are also not permitted.
Families can drop off their donations at the Hodag Dome, but organizers recommend checking the Hodag Dome’s website or Facebook page for open hours before bringing items.
Any equipment remaining after the event can be picked up by noon on Saturday. All leftover gear that is not claimed will be donated to local community groups. For the most current information regarding leftover equipment, residents are encouraged to check the event’s Facebook page after the swap concludes.
